Provider Profile

At Community Health Partners (CHP), our dedicated healthcare providers make us who we are. As members and servants of their communities, each has a unique story behind their passion for helping others and their choice to join CHP. In this Provider Profile, we get to know Sarah Morgan, MD, a new medical provider in our Belgrade Clinic and our first physician located there since its opening in 2007.

Sarah Morgan grew up right here in the Gallatin Valley. She graduated from Bozeman High School and spent much of her time on her family farm in the Belgrade area which has been in the family for five generations! Sarah went to medical school at the University of Washington, which allowed her to do rotations in several northwestern states, Montana included. While in school, she spent time in Wyoming, Alaska, Washington, Montana, and Idaho learning patient care from a variety of medical providers. She completed her residency at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque but knew she was meant to practice here in the Gallatin Valley once she finished. She has spent the last 14 years with Absaroka Emergency Physicians at the Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital emergency department before joining the CHP team this summer.

If you had to explain your job to a 5-year-old, what would you say?

Simply put, I help people who are hurt.

What personal and professional experiences brought you to this type of work?

I’ve always had a desire to make a difference in people’s lives and I think that working in the medical field has given me that opportunity over the course of my career.

What made you want to work for CHP?

My ties to CHP go way back to before they even had a clinic to operate out of. I worked with them back when they were a Saturday-only clinic operating solely off of volunteered time from providers. So in a way, coming back to practice at CHP sort of feels like I’m coming home.

What makes you feel like you've done your job well?

Anytime I’m given the opportunity to learn something new from a patient. Say someone comes in with chronic low back pain, and we lay out a treatment plan for them. When they return for a follow-up and they can tell me not only what worked and what didn’t, but also give me some feedback on a different technique that really worked for them and I can share that with other patients that might be in a similar situation.

What do you love about your community in Montana?

I love the team effort around a shared vision that is at the heart of Montanans. So many great things can be accomplished when we work together. Take the CHP Belgrade clinic, for example, Myles, Tey, and everyone else in that office have worked for years to build this clinic into a well-oiled machine that serves the Belgrade community in a really special way. I’m humbled to be able to join this remarkable team and be able to give back to my community here in Montana in a meaningful way.

What are other ways you're involved in your community outside of serving through CHP?

I teach medical students doing their first and second years of training here in Bozeman, and I really enjoy it. As someone who benefitted from the WWAMI program here at Montana State and located on the Bozeman Health campus, it means a lot to be able to give back and help train the next generation of medical professionals. I also remain involved in our family farm operation out in Belgrade.

What do you do for fun?

I really enjoy going on new adventures with my three kids. They’re all at an age where it’s so fun to get to explore new places and experiences with them. I also love having time to learn something new. I recently took a women’s Chainsaw 101 class put on by the Red Ants Pants Foundation and learned the safety, use, and maintenance of a chainsaw geared specifically for women. It was such a cool opportunity!
